Alan had been taught from a young age to always look presentable. No pajamas or slippers outside of the house, sweats are only acceptable when going or returning from the gym, etc. When he was young this rule had irritated him, but as an adult he saw the merit in taking care of one’s appearance.
But all those rules seemed to be useless when it came to preparing for what should be just a coworkers game night.
Everything he tried on was too much or too little. Or didn’t fit right. Or just didn’t look right. He had unwillingly settled on jeans and a black shirt when he got a text from Neveah. She was on her way to Dragonboy’s.
A mess of nerves and excitement, Alan left for the party.
Neveah was taking a moment to herself in the silence of the pink oblivion. A pocket dimension that she traveled between when she was teleporting. A mass of pink and purple cloudlike structures and a whistling breeze, the pink oblivion was a dead landscape. Nothing living, besides herself, was here.
She took several deep breaths, stilling the roiling butterflies in her stomach. She had been on dates before, but this felt more exciting. She was excited, and happy, and that scared her a little. And then she would remember who Alan’s father was and wonder if she was losing her mind. Why else would she be so drawn to such a bad idea?
She took another long, slow breath, before taking a step that teleported her in front of Dragonboy’s place. She looked at her phone, only 5 minutes had passed since she first left her apartment. Something odd with the dimension travel, no matter how long she stayed in the pink oblivion only 5 minutes passed at home.
She had an alert for a text from Alan, he would be here in about 10 minutes. She sighed with relief, she had 10 minutes to figure out how to act normal. She walked up to Dragonboy’s and rang the doorbell.
10 minutes until her date with the son of her father’s archnemesis would begin.
